Throwing 101.1 mph will get people's attention.

But what EARNED ballplayer Miguel Sime Jr. did throughout the 2026 season was about a lot more than one pitch.

At just 19 years old, the Washington Nationals pitching prospect put together a breakout year that took him from Single-A to High-A, earned him a spot in the MLB All-Star Futures Game and ended with Sime being named the Washington Nationals' 2026 Minor League Pitcher of the Year.

Sime finished the season with 130 strikeouts in 72.1 innings between Single-A Fredericksburg and High-A Wilmington. He posted a 2.99 ERA, held opposing hitters to a .153 batting average and allowed just three home runs.

Among Minor League pitchers with at least 65 innings, his 16.18 strikeouts per nine innings led all of Minor League Baseball.

Then came one of the highlights of his season.

101.1 MPH

Sime was selected for the 2026 MLB All-Star Futures Game, where baseball's top prospects get an opportunity to compete on one of the game's biggest stages.

He struck out two batters and delivered the fastest pitch of the entire game: 101.1 mph.

That's the number everyone remembers.

Sime's journey began in Brooklyn, where he pitched at Poly Prep Country Day School before Washington selected him in the fourth round of the 2025 MLB Draft.

Just one year later, he had established himself as one of the most exciting young arms in the Nationals organization.
