The Cape Connection: EARNED Ballplayers and a Baseball Summer Unlike Any Other

There are certain places that become part of a ballplayer’s story.

For generations of baseball players, Cape Cod has been one of them.

Long summer days. Cool nights at the ballfield. Wood bats. Folding chairs behind the backstop. Kids chasing foul balls and waiting for autographs. Baseball mixed seamlessly with beaches, bikes, clam shacks and everything else that makes summer on the Cape feel like the Cape.

That connection runs through EARNED, too.

Four EARNED ballplayers—Blake Wehunt, AJ Gracia, Mavrick Rizy and Korbin Reynolds—have spent part of their baseball journeys playing summer baseball on Cape Cod.

Different years. Different towns. Different stages of their careers.

But each has a Cape chapter.

Blake Wehunt pitched for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in 2023 before being selected by Boston in the 2023 MLB Draft. Today, the right-hander is in the Boston Red Sox organization, continuing his journey toward the Major Leagues.

AJ Gracia played for the Cotuit Kettleers in 2024. After a standout college career, Gracia was selected ninth overall by the Atlanta Braves in the 2026 MLB Draft and is now beginning his professional baseball journey in the Braves organization.

Mavrick Rizy pitched for the Brewster Whitecaps in 2025 and 2026. Before returning to the Cape, the 6-foot-9 right-hander was part of LSU’s 2025 College World Series National Championship team, helping the Tigers capture a national title as a freshman. Today, Mavrick continues his college baseball career at Ole Miss.

But Mavrick's Cape story began long before college baseball—and long before becoming a national champion.

Growing up in Massachusetts, Mavrick vacationed on Cape Cod with his family. He went to games. He chased foul balls. He asked players for autographs.

Years later, he returned as one of the players kids were coming to see.

That's Cape baseball culture coming full circle.

Korbin Reynolds spent the summer of 2026 with the Chatham Anglers. The talented catcher is now at Vanderbilt, continuing his college career in one of the country's premier baseball programs.

Four EARNED ballplayers.

Four different baseball journeys.

And four connections to baseball on Cape Cod.

That feels especially meaningful because EARNED's own story has deep roots here.

EARNED was founded by two Massachusetts kids, Jack and Thomas, whose baseball lives have been intertwined with Cape Cod for years. Their family has a home here. They play travel baseball here throughout the spring, summer and fall. They attend baseball camps here. They play Wiffle ball with friends here. Their days can move from beach towels in the morning to baseball gloves at night.

That's what makes baseball culture special.

It's the kid chasing the foul ball.

The college player signing it.

The family sitting behind the backstop.

The Wiffle ball game in the yard.

The glove buried underneath the beach towels in the back of the car.

And sometimes, years later, the kid chasing the foul ball becomes the ballplayer on the field.

The Cape has been part of their baseball stories.

It's part of ours, too.

Cape Cod is baseball culture.

And baseball culture is EARNED.
