Some ballparks are about the game. Others turn baseball into an entire experience.

Our EARNED MLB Stadium Tour took us to downtown Detroit and Comerica Park, home of one of baseball’s oldest franchises—the Detroit Tigers.

And we happened to arrive for a pretty special moment in Tigers history.

Detroit was celebrating 125 years of Tigers baseball, with generations of players and memories being honored throughout the weekend. Even better, we watched Tarik Skubal take the mound in what would become one of his final home starts as a Tiger.

Skubal struck out 12 Kansas City Royals, and the chants of “Skooooob” echoed throughout Comerica Park. Days later, the two-time defending American League Cy Young Award winner was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

We didn't know we were watching the end of an era.

More Than a Ballpark

Comerica Park is one of the most entertaining stadiums we've visited because there is so much to explore.

There are giant tiger statues throughout the park and enormous baseball bats towering over the entrances. Walk the main concourse and you'll find a decade-by-decade museum celebrating Tigers history.

Then there are two attractions you definitely don't expect at a Major League ballpark.

A carousel where you ride tigers instead of horses and a giant baseball-themed Ferris wheel.

For kids visiting MLB stadiums, it doesn't get much better.

Center field even features massive fountains that can synchronize water displays to music, while the open outfield provides great views of the Detroit skyline.

And a Detroit baseball trip needs Detroit food. Ballpark concessions have featured local favorites and Michigan flavors alongside the hot dogs, popcorn and peanuts that belong at every baseball game.

But what made this visit memorable wasn't any single attraction.

It was experiencing 125 years of Tigers history while watching one of the greatest pitchers in franchise history make one of his final appearances in a Detroit uniform.

That's why we're visiting these stadiums.

The carousel. The Ferris wheel. The food. The history. The players. The unexpected moments you don't realize are historic until later.
